How 3 Institutions Harnessed Tech to Scale Their Family Engagement Strategy and Success

A comprehensive family engagement strategy that covers the entire student lifecycle is important and impactful. It’s also a lift that many small teams struggle with. When resources are tight, leaning into technology can be the helping hand that allows you to scale.

CampusESP is an all-in-one family engagement platform that helps institutions share personalized, timely content with families across web, mobile, email, and text message. CampusESP currently helps nearly 100 AHEPPP members scale their family engagement strategy and strengthen student outcomes.

University of Maryland, Tarleton State University, and UNC Charlotte turned to CampusESP for unique reasons. Check out what problems these teams needed to solve, and how the platform and team was able to help them find success.

University of Maryland increases campaign reach by 8x

With an outdated database and a desire to engage families with more robust communications, University of Maryland needed a tool that could create customized emails at scale. UMD also needed a better way to promote partner advertisements, which is a critical component of their sponsorship program. After partnering with CampusESP and promoting advertisements within the platform, University of Maryland increased their overall campaign reach by 8x!

“Having CampusESP as a tool to engage families and partner with sponsors is a major win for our office,” said Brian Watkins, UMD’s Assistant Dean and Director of Family Engagement. “It takes less than 5 minutes to set up a campaign, and then the campaign basically runs itself. In less than an hour, we can have our campaigns set up for the year.”

Tarleton State University decreases parent phone calls by 95%

Tarleton State University used to receive up to 10 calls a day from parents looking for more resources to help support their student. Tarleton turned to CampusESP as a way to better share important resources and campus information with families and in turn help students stay on track. Tarleton also uses CampusESP for FERPA Management, which provides easy visibility into student progress and nudges parents when it’s time to step in and get involved.

“With CampusESP, our phone calls began to decrease daily,” said Lathes Towns, Tarleton’s Director of Student Involvement and Family Relations. “Our parent call volume has gone down around 95%, and now we’re only getting a few phone calls from parents per week.”

UNC Charlotte reaches Family Weekend goals with CampusESP

UNC Charlotte needed a streamlined way to manage Family Weekend registration and communication. The first time UNC Charlotte promoted Family Weekend in CampusESP, they sold out their 2,100+ Family Weekend tickets in the first four hours! The following year, Charlotte sold out yet again— however, they had to make the tough decision to reschedule just days before the big event due to Hurricane Ian. When things rose to crisis level communication, CampusESP helped make their pivot smooth.

“CampusESP made our pivot possible by allowing us to communicate seamlessly with families, roll over all registrations to the new date, while also providing information about our refund process,” said Lisa Gaskin, Associate Director of Family Experiences & Success Initiatives at UNC Charlotte. “We sold out again — twice in one season!”
