Refund and Cancellation Policy

  • The last day to register for the conference is Friday, October 25 at 11:59 p.m. EST
  • All cancellations and requests for refunds must be received in writing on or before Friday, October 25 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Please email [email protected] to make your request. Refunds are subject to a $150 cancellation fee
  • We are unable to issue refunds after October 25

Statements on Hotel Smoking and Gambling

Smoking
The Peppermill Reno Resort complies with the Nevada Clean Indoor Act, which prohibits smoking in indoor public spaces. As a result, the Hotel and Convention Center and meeting rooms are non-smoking. Additionally, smoking is not permitted in restaurants, lounges where food is served, hotel lobbies, elevators, guest room hallways, retail stores and other indoor spaces. The Casino floor and certain lounges where food is not served are exempt. Conference attendees might smell smoke when they are near the Casino, including the lobby, escalators, and hallways around the conference meeting spaces. Air purifiers are located around these areas to reduce the smell of smoke.

Gambling
The Peppermill Reno Resort offers a casino on the first floor. We recognize that gambling is a form of entertainment for those who wish to participate. While conference attendees do not have to gamble, we recognize that some people may struggle with gambling. In this keynote presentation, we will delve into the transformative power of cultural humility. We will explore how cultural humility can help leaders effectively create a sense of belonging on their campus. The presentation will focus on three fundamental characteristics of cultural humility: Self-Awareness & Self-Critique, Redressing Power Imbalances, and Organizational Change.

Dr. Joel Pérez is an executive and leadership coach, speaker, and consultant, passionate about helping leaders and organizations achieve their goals and develop a posture of cultural humility so they can have the impact and create the culture they desire.

Joel is the owner of Apoyo Coaching and Consulting, LLC and a Professionally Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Prior to launching Apoyo Coaching and Consulting, Dr. Pérez held several positions with colleges and universities for over 20 years. In 2022 he was awarded NASPA’s Pillar of the Profession for his years of service to the profession and higher education.

His book Dear White Leader: How to Achieve Organizational Excellence through Cultural Humility, is focused on helping leaders develop their cultural humility for individual, organizational, and community change.

Joel earned his doctorate in higher education administration at Claremont Graduate University. He has been married for over 27 years and has four children, and he enjoys cheering on the Los Angeles Dodgers and watching movies.
