Message from President-Elect Nicki Jenkins

Dear AHEPPP family,

Like many others during this time of year, my family recently spent some time over a turkey dinner reflecting on all of the things we were thankful for in 2023. Some were thankful for family, some for good health, and one particular 2 and a half year old was adamantly thankful for Bingo and Bluey!

I, too, am very thankful for all of those things – yes, I do love those animated Australian pups. But, I am also so grateful for the AHEPPP community that I have grown to love over the last 8 years. You have been the friends I have gone to for help, encouragement, and brainstorming. You were the ones I called in the middle of a crisis when I was trying to figure out how to best handle a difficult situation. You have been some of my greatest supporters and have challenged me to be a better professional and human being.

As I reflect on the past year, I am so proud of the work that AHEPPP has accomplished and the ways in which we have expanded our family network. As our Executive Director, Jennifer Wood, spoke about during our conference in Baltimore, AHEPPP is on the right trajectory toward record growth in membership, new and inspiring programs, innovative and groundbreaking research, and more. Our members are the best of the best in this field and we are going to shine in 2024!

Here are a just a few projects that your AHEPPP board of directors will be working towards in the coming year:

  1. We will be working with a consultant to conduct a review and assessment of the organization, and build a strategic long-term vision for AHEPPP.
  2. We will continue to build out volunteer, leadership, and engagement opportunities for our members.
  3. We will be soliciting feedback from our members about their experiences and using it to help shape future programs and initiatives.
  4. We will strengthen our educational initiatives and work hard to provide professional development opportunities for all of our members.

It’s going to be an amazing year and if you are as excited about AHEPPP in 2024 as I am and want to get more involved, check out the AHEPPP website at www.aheppp.org for leadership and volunteer opportunities or reach out to [email protected], and we can help you get connected.

If you have question or just want to talk with someone about an issue you are having at your institution, connect with colleagues through AHEPPP’s online community or join the Mentor Program (applications due December 15th).

If you have an idea for AHEPPP, we want to hear it. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or email me at [email protected]. We are always glad to hear from you.

I hope everyone is able to enjoy a relaxing winter break – or at least eat some delicious treats during the holiday chaos. I look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year and could not be more grateful to have such amazing friends and colleagues around the world.

All the best,

Nicki Jenkins, AHEPPP President-Elect
