Awards Committee Chair Information and Application

Leadership position:  AHEPPP Awards Committee Chair 
Reports to: AHEPPP Board of Directors and Executive Director
Length of term: November 2023-December 2024
Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week, varies


Position description: The AHEPPP Awards Committee Chair provides leadership and strategic direction for the Family Engagement in Higher Education Awards. Leading a team of 4-6 volunteers, the Chair ensures the success of awards from start to finish by maintaining that all aspects of the awards process align with AHEPPP’s mission, vision, and values as the premier association for family engagement at the collegiate level. 


Application Materials:

  • All applicants must submit a signed letter from their supervisor certifying institutional support to attend the 2024 national conference. Institutional support includes travel costs (airfare, registration fees, hotel, ground transportation, meals and lodging).
  • Applicants must submit a current resume/vitae.
  • Applicants must submit a short-answer reply to the following prompt: Why you would like to serve as 2024 Family Engagement in Higher Education Awards Chair? Outline the skills and experiences you have that will contribute to leading the planning committee. Also, please share specific ideas or suggestions you have for the 2024 conference. Limit to 500 words.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve in the primary role on the awards committee leadership team and reports to the AHEPPP Board of Directors
  • Participate and observe in the AHEPPP 2023 National Conference in Baltimore, MD
  • Oversee the administrative and logistical management of the awards process that includes marketing, reviewing, and selection of awards
  • Partner with the AHEPPP National Conference Committee to coordinate award presentations at the 2024 AHEPPP National Conference
  • Actively support awards committee for maximized engagement and participation

Desired qualifications:
  • Current member of association with at least 3 years of experience engaging with parents and families at the collegiate level. Applicants do not have to officially be part of a parent and family program at their institution to serve as Awards Chair; they can come from any office, department, or program from an AHEPPP member institution that engages with parents and families of college students.
  • Strong organizational, assessment, and marketing skills
  • Relational, collaborative, and responsive
  • Ability to meet with the Awards Committee regularly
  • Ability to attend the Family Engagement in Higher Education National Conferences in 2023 and 2024 
  • All applicants must submit a signed letter from their supervisor certifying institutional support to attend national conferences. Institutional support includes travel costs (conference registration, airfare, hotel, ground transportation, meals and lodging)
  • Previous experience on the AHEPPP Awards Committee or other awards committees
