AHEPPP Board of Directors Nomination Information

The Board of Directors of AHEPPP: Family Engagement in Higher Education encourages our members to consider nominating themselves or other AHEPPP members to the Board. 

Responsibilities of Directors

Members of the Board of Directors regularly attend board meetings and conference calls; represent
AHEPPP at events, gatherings, and conferences; recruit AHEPPP members and solicit their involvement in the organization; contribute to the establishment of annual goals of the organization; serve on at least one committee and be willing to serve on other committees as requested; participate in the organization’s annual evaluation process and planning activities.

Term of Office and Meetings

Members of the Board of Directors serve one three-year term (with the option to renew).  Directors are expected to participate in monthly board conference calls, as well as in-person annual board meetings, regional events, and national conferences. Member institutions are asked to provide travel expenses for an AHEPPP Director to attend two required annual meetings. 

There are two ways to be nominated for the Board of Directors:

  • Self: Any current AHEPPP member willing to participate and to fulfill the obligations of board membership may self-nominate by completing the nomination form and returning the information by the deadline.
  • Peer: Any current AHEPPP member who feels a particular individual will enhance the quality of leadership on the board may nominate that person.  Members can do this by completing the nomination form themselves or by providing their candidate with the nomination form to complete. Please note: the nominee must be informed about the nomination and write his or her own personal statement; the nominator cannot write the personal statement.  Members who nominate are encouraged to write a recommendation letter for the nominee. The nominee must be a member of AHEPPP at the time of nomination. The nomination form and all supporting materials must be submitted by the deadline.

Criteria

Minimum Criteria:

  • Membership in AHEPPP of no less than 2 years
  • Professional experience in higher education for no less than 5 years
  • Evidence of a commitment to the field of higher education and/or parent/family relations, retention, engagement, transition, and/or student affairs, enrollment management, fundraising or other related fields in higher education.

Additional Criteria:

  • Guided by evidence of leadership and a wide range of experiences; and a commitment to AHEPPP’s mission, vision and programs.
  • Contributed 2 years of services to members of the organization or peers within the profession (e.g. participated in the mentor program, collaborated with individuals from other institutions to develop programs/initiatives, presented at national conferences, etc.)
  • Demonstrated 2 years of service to AHEPPP (e.g. served as a conference volunteer, on committees, published on the AHEPPP blog. etc.)
  • Published articles, survey analyses, chapters and/or books addressing parent engagement at the post-secondary education level as it relates to, or impacts, student development and/or retention.
  • Willingness to embrace fast-paced, high pressure, team-oriented work environment with an amicable attitude and balance multiple priorities.
  • Keep abreast current events in higher education as they pertain to students and their family engagement at the college level
  • Is guided by AHEPPP’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Elected board members should represent -balance across institutional type/size and geographic regions.

There are currently three anticipated openings on the AHEPPP Board of Directors. All members are encouraged to consider applying or nominating for this role.

All nominations must be submitted by October 1, 2019 for consideration for the 2020-22 term.

Selection Timeline

Nominees will be vetted by the current Board of Directors and will be presented to AHEPPP membership for a vote. 

September 1 - October 1 | Call for Nominations

October 8  | Current Board verifies nominees' eligibility 

October 15 - 31 | Voting 

November 4 - 6 | Announcement at the National Conference
