President's Perspective
Greetings AHEPPP Colleagues,
Well, I blinked again and here we are barreling toward the end of another academic year. To those of you in the home stretch, I’m cheering you on through this last mile! And for those already celebrating your graduates, I hope there is the opportunity to rest and reset before jumping into orientation and other summer activities.
We continue to collect member feedback to help shape the future of AHEPPP. When you have a brief beat, and if you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to take a few moments and provide your perspectives on the AHEPPP Membership: Climate Survey or by participating in a Mission Statement focus group. The survey remains open through the end of next week, while the focus groups are happening over this week and next. Every voice matters! All data gathered will be shared at the conference in the fall, alongside all the ways AHEPPP leadership will be making use of it to improve organizational operations and services.
With the 2023 National Conference registration now open, I’m officially counting the days until I get to see many of you in person. Congratulations to all who’ve submitted program proposals. Many thanks to the peer reviewers who will be reading through the 46 submissions in the coming weeks, and I can’t wait to see the lineup of fabulous topics and presenters. An additional and significant “Thank You” goes to the 2023 Conference Committee who are working diligently to make this an amazing conference. Please keep an eye out for an upcoming email that will launch the new & improved 2023 AHEPPP Awards nomination process!
Thank you, each and every one of you, for the various ways you contribute to this community and make us all stronger professionals. In gratitude for you and this community, Alexandra Brown President, AHEPPP: Family Engagement in Higher Education Sr. Director, Student Alumni Programs, Family Engagement and Board Management | UCLA

AHEPPP Requests Your Feedback
As AHEPPP President, Alex Brown announced in her April President's Perspective email, we are currently assessing where we are and who we are currently as an association. There are two initiatives underway and one more to come in June.
1. AHEPPP Membership: Climate Survey - Many thanks to those of you who have already completed this survey. If you have not yet had the opportunity to do so, there is still time! This survey will close on Friday, May 12 and will take less than 15 minutes of your time.
2. AHEPPP Mission Statement Focus Groups - The purpose of these focus groups is to seek membership perspectives and opinions about the current mission statement, solicit ideas, thoughts, and opinions about how you would like to see the organization transformed, and gather insight into current or prospective needs that exist. Each focus group will be one-hour in length. Please click on your preferred focus group date to register. Focus groups will be held on the following dates:
Wednesday, May 3 at 2 pm ET Monday, May 8 at 3:30 pm ET Friday, May 12 at 3 pm ET Thursday, May 18 at 2:00 pm ET
3. AHEPPP Membership: Satisfaction Survey - COMING IN JUNE
Your time and feedback is greatly appreciated and will help improve and inform the Association.
Updates from CAS
The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is pleased to announce the release of the 2023 CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education (11th version). AHEPPP takes great pride as a member of CAS in contributing to the development of standards for 50 different functional areas.
There are many new attributes of CAS Standards in this 11th version. The CAS Book includes many revisions to content and design. Notably, this volume is the first delivered exclusively in eBook format and has fillable PDF Self-Assessment Guides. As a reminder, AHEPPP members can access the Parent and Family Programs and Orientation Standards within the Member Resources drop-down tab on our website.
Additionally, our endless gratitude goes to Dr. Christine Self (Texas Tech) for representing AHEPPP and families so well during the revision process through her service as chair for the Undergraduate Admissions Programs & Services standards revision committee. As Dr. Self continues her service as AHEPPP's representative on the CAS Council, we congratulate her for being recently elected as Member-at-Large User Experience to the CAS Governing Board, a three-year term.
Please direct all questions and inquiries about the revised standards to the CAS Executive Director ([email protected]).
