The AHEPPP 2018 Conference Committee invites professional staff, faculty, and graduate students from all academic disciplines and departments to consider presenting a program at AHEPPP's 2018 National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. This year, we are celebrating 10 years of AHEPPP with the conference theme, AHEPPP 2018: Celebrating Our Past - Shaping Our Future. Pre-Conference Workshops

AHEPPP Institute: Fundraising Track (new this year!)

Monday, November 12, 2018 - 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Join us for the AHEPPP Institute: Fundraising Track, Monday, November 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Attendees will learn the role of parents and family members in the greater context of university fundraising, approaches to engage parents and family members in annual giving and major gifts, and identify and discuss the various campus partners necessary for a successful parent and family fundraising program. The format of the day will include breakout sessions, panels and roundtables. The schedule will also include a networking luncheon where attendees will be able to connect with colleagues and broaden their professional network.  This track will concentrate on topics for parent/family professionals who are new to fundraising and/or for whom it is only a portion of their job.

Participants will:

  • Identify the role of parents and family members in the context of fundraising and university advancement.

  • Identify opportunities and methods for engaging parents and family members in annual giving and major gifts.

  • Discuss the various campus partners necessary for a successful parent and family fundraising program.

AHEPPP Institute: Professionals New to Family Programming Track

Monday, November 12, 2018 - 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Join us for the AHEPPP Institute: New Professional Track, Monday, November 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Attendees will engage and interact with colleagues in the field to begin building their professional network and learn high impact practices which can be utilized on their campus. The format of the day will include breakout sessions, expert panels and roundtables. Attendees will also enjoy a mentoring lunch with seasoned parent and family program professionals. This track will concentrate on topics for professionals who have been working with parents and families for less than three years.

Participants will:

  • Be able to identify the mission, vision, and structure of AHEPPP

  • Begin to establish a network of mutually supportive parent and family programing professionals

  • Be able to identify elements of successful parent and family programs and ideas for implementation by networking and learning from seasoned professionals in the field.

Please note that AHEPPP Institute tracks run concurrently. Participants may choose between the two options. 

Conference Keynote

Jamie WashingtonRev. Dr. Jamie Washington serves as the President and Founder of the Washington Consulting Group, a Multicultural Organizational Development Firm out of Baltimore, MD. He is also a senior consultant with The Equity Consulting Group of California, and Elsie Y. Cross and Associates out of Philadelphia. Dr. Washington has served as an educator and administrator in higher education for over 20 years. He most recently served as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). He has been an instructor in Sociology, American Studies and Education, and an Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies at UMBC. As a native Philadelphian, Dr. Washington earned his B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation and Music from Slippery Rock State College, and a double Masters' of Science degree from Indiana University/Bloomington in Higher Education Administration and Counseling, with a concentration in Human Sexuality. He holds a Ph.D. is in College Student Development, with a concentration in Multicultural Education from the University of Maryland College Park. Dr. Washington completed his Master of Divinity program @ Howard University School of Divinity in May of 2004.

Dr. Washington is currently the President of ACPA and has held leadership positions in NASPA, ACHUO-I, MACUHO, MCPA, APA, NGLTF, The Campaign to End Homophobia and the Nation Black Lesbian and Gay Leadership Forum. Dr. Washington is a Lead faculty member with the LeaderShape Institute and the National Certified Student Leader Program, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key, Alpha Phi Omega, Phi Delta Kappa, education Honorary, and a Life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He has over 30 years of experience in music ministry, is an ordained minister and currently serves as an Associate Minister at Unity Fellowship Church of Baltimore. Rev. Dr. Washington sees himself as an instrument of change. He works everyday to help people find the best in themselves and others.

AHEPPP 2018 will be held at the Embassy Suites Louisville Downtown. A historic building with a contemporary, boutique-like ambiance, Embassy Suites Louisville Downtown boasts a fantastic location next to the Fourth St. Live! entertainment district with its many restaurants and bars, and is just three blocks from Whisky Row, where you can take a bourbon tour of several distillers. This all-suite hotel in downtownLouisville, Kentucky, is also just blocks from the KFC Yum! Center, Museum Row, the Kentucky Center for Arts, and the Muhammad Ali Museum. A daily breakfast and on-site happy hour are included with your hotel stay.

An opening reception and one dinner are included. Those staying on site are provided with a daily breakfast and evening happy hour with their room reservation. 

The last day to register for the conference is Friday, October 21 at 5:00 pm EST. Late registrations are subject to a $150 late fee and will be accommodated only as space permits. 

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be received by AHEPPP (lindsay@aheppp.org) in writing on or before before October 21 2018, 5:00 pm EST. A refund will be issued, subject to a $150 cancellation fee. We are unable to issue refunds after October 21, 2018, 5:00 pm EST.

AHEPPP Institute fees are nonrefundable.
