Hello AHEPPP Members.

We are currently reviewing  our emergency notification system and I am
wondering how many schools notify parents in regards to an emergency.
Basically, I am interested in the following:

Do you have an “opt in” procedure for parents to receive messages on their
cell phone or  via e-mail?
Do you make a distinction between a crime  incident alert vs. a major
college emergency in regards to parent notification?
For those of you who do notify parents—can you provide some feedback about
the impact it has had on the institution.

AHEPP members,
I am curious to find out how your programs coordinate parent chapters and
clubs.

Specifically, I am interested in hearing from those of you where parent
programs fall under student affairs, but you still coordinate events (i.e.,
chapters and clubs) with the office of alumni.

How does this work at your school?  How do you manage costs? Who plays the
primary leadership role? What works and what does not work with this
process?

Or, do you simply have separate clubs and chapters for parents and alumni?

Similar to Kim’s question, I am curious about what you all do specifically
for transfer parent/guest/supporters.  I created a very quick program but I
am not in love with it.  I am looking for a “how to support your transfer
student” session.  Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have been asked to create a multi session Parent Orientation Program. In
the past, we have done one session that touched on basic elements of what a
parent should know about our campus, i.e.  campus directory, bursar’s
office, financial aid office.  However, this is not meeting the needs of
our families.  Does anyone have words of advice, a program they would be
willing to share or ideas?

Hello fellow AHEPPP members.  I have been charged with putting a
communications plan together for our parent community and am interested in
the following:
1.      Do you have a print newsletter that is mailed to your parent
community?  How often is it mailed out?
2.      Do you have an electronic newsletter that you send out to
parents?  How often is it sent out?
3.      Do you send out both an electronic and print newsletter?  How
often do you send both out?

Howdy AHEPPP Members!

At parent orientation last fall I had a number of parents comment that they
would have liked a supervised setting where they could drop their younger
children off.  Do any of you have an area specifically for younger siblings
of incoming students where they can participate in fun, exciting, age
appropriate activities while mom, dad and student tend to orientation?  If
so, who supervised the younger children?  We are thinking of using students
majoring in Education.  What kind of training (if any) did the students
have to go through?  Was this training required for insurance liability
reasons?  What kinds of activities were offered for the children?

Hello AHEPPP members,
Our Admissions Office has a group of parents who have volunteered to
assist them as needed. They are looking into a program where the current
parents would speak to parents of prospective students. Do you have a
program like this in place? How do your parents make the contact with the
prospective parents? Are there specific topics of conversation? Do you do
any training?

Greetings!

If you have established Parents Council, I would be interested in hearing
about your process for notifying applicants who are not selected.

Do you notify via letter or by phone?
If by letter, do you send it via email or USPS?

Our Parents Council has been up and running for a year, which means in that
this is the first time we have had more interested candidates than we have
spaces available. Presumably we could send an adaptation of an interview
rejection letter, but are interested in learning a little more about what
the “norm” is among colleagues.
